In June we packed up the kids, backpacks, and the dog and headed out to the Jennie Lakes Wilderness. We picked Jennie Lakes for a few reason:
1. It's a little hole in the middle of Kings Canyon & Sequoia N.P. (awesome area)
2. It was an easy 7 mile hike into the lake with minimal elevation gain (making it relatively easy for the kids)
3. You don't need a wilderness permit, and since we were taking six kids (and a dog) this was our best chance of actually being able to go backpacking.
And off we go
First stop, a stream to catch butterflies (there was a ton of them).
The butterflies liked Jack.
Snack break!
Camp.
Bear cans were not required, but we still needed to hang our food to keep it safe from the marmots.
Nate and Gabby found a log to paddle around the lake. They named it Jennie.
Miles and Gabby on Jennie.
Oh yeah, another bonus to this lake that we discovered, the fish are much larger then what we are used to in the Sierras.
On top of the peak that over looks the lake.
Some of the fish that were caught.
The kids gutted the fish
and prepared them for cooking.
Elam was the master chef.
Yum, fresh trout!
Hiking back to the car.
Uncle Randy joined us while we were up there. He found a trailhead that was two miles closer and gave us a ride to our car.
The kids loved riding in the back of the truck.
And because we were so close we had to stop by and see General Sherman.
What a great adventure! Em, you're such a good sport!
