Exhibition Week

My kids go to a school that is project based. At the end of every semester, they have an exhibition to display their work. I really like their school. Within each of their projects they cover multiple subjects.

Miranda is in 6th grade and her team's (a team consists of two 6th grade classes) project was making a coloring book about different animals. To do this they went to the zoo, nature center, and whale watching. After learning about many different animals, they picked an animal to write a report on and draw a coloring book page. Then, they were put into pairs with another student and they combined their animals and had to make a fictional report about their made up animal.
Miranda picked a cactus ferruginous pygmy owl and her partner chose a red fox. Together they made a pygmy fowlx.
You can actually purchase the coloring book from Amazon next month.
In multi-media, Miranda's class learned how to make logos using photo shop and adobe illustrator. The students were paired up and given a container. Then, they were to create a product and make a logo for their container. Miranda and her partner came up with Liquistache. It is a product that allows you to paint on facial hair.

Gabby is in 8th grade. Her project was making a hovercraft. All of the 8th graders were put into groups and each group built a hovercraft. Each hovercraft was decorated to represent a historical event from American history. For the presentation, the students had a parade where each group showed off their project.
Gabby's project represented the Selma to Montgomery marches for civil rights.

Joel is in 10th grade and for his project, his team is attempting to start a business. They have been learning how to start a food truck. They have been interviewing food truck owners, cooking, learning basic spanish, learning the legality of running a business, and they even received their food handlers licenses. They currently are part of a website that explains the project and helps them to receive donations. The website is http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/143867250/reel-delicious
On this site there is a video explaining the project (Joel helped make the video).
On exhibition night Joel was a waiter. He passed out samples of the food that they will be serving on the food truck.

So, that is a little about the kid's schools and what they are up to.
